Conclusion
Cuddeback cameras have been one of the most popular trail cameras for a long time. The new Capture 3.0 is an attempt by Cuddeback to produce a camera at a lower price point, but with the same fast trigger speed as the more expensive models. Obviously, being a Cuddeback, this camera has a super fast trigger speed of 1/3 second. Which is quick enough to catch even the quickest moving animal. The other thing that I really like about this camera is its night pictures. Now keep in mind that this is an incandescent camera, meaning it has the traditional "flash." However, the night pictures were clear, bright, and the flash had great depth (reaching 60 ft. easily).
Another great quality about this camera is that it is probably the easiest camera to set up of all the cameras I've used. Setting the date, time, year, and time lapse has never been easier. It will probably take you less than a minute to be up and running.
The battery life is ok, taking somewhere around 1,000 pictures (they advertise 2,000) before new batteries are needed. The one thing that has long handicapped Cuddeback is its narrow detection width. Essentially the camera will only be triggered when an animal moves directly in front of the camera. In other words, if you set this camera on a food plot, and an animal stays on the edge of the field - the camera will not be triggered. This does not come to play as often on trails and baited areas. Conversely, Cuddeback would argue that a narrow detection width ensures that you get a picture of the animal when it is in the middle of the picture frame. Giving you a higher quality photo.
All in all, this is a great "value" camera. If you want a solid, dependable incandescent flash camera, you've found it. It is by no means perfect for every situation, but it will get the job done admirably if used correctly (bait, trail, even scrape).
