Conclusion
The first thing that you notice when you open the camera up is the huge LCD touch screen. I was pleased to find the touch screen very user-friendly. The setup instruction are as easy as touching the option you want to change and then programming it to your desired settings. We did notice that during cold conditions the LCD screen was slow to react.
The casing of the Predator Xtinction is very durable and has a solid "feel" to it. The slide that locks the door can be a bit hard to open, but it is built to last.
The trigger time on the Predator Evolution XR is a mere 0.5 seconds. This helps make up for the fact that the detection width is very narrow. We were also very happy to find out that the recovery time of the Predator scouting cameras is now down to 10 seconds. This helps immensely in situations where a buck may be chasing a doe on a fast moving trail.
As you may have read in the
2008 Trail Camera Shootout
, we sometimes found that the Predator scouting cameras operated erratically. They would work great for a period of time, then misfire a few times. The picture quality of the Predator Evolution is average.
Overall this is a solid, versatile camera that can be used in several settings (trails, scrapes and feeders).
