Reconyx RC60 HO

With a completely covert infrared flash (no red glow) and an added 15 ft. of night range this is the ultimate camera for security purposes. The RC60 HO can take picture in 0.2 seconds after it is triggered and can be ready for the next picture instantly. It also has a wide detection zone, meaning the intruder does not have to be directly in front of the camera for it to be triggered. The RC60 HO comes with great security options as well. Put a Rapidfire Enclosure, with a Python lock, and a Masterlock Brass Padlock and your investment is well protected. With no light being emitted, no sound produced, and plenty of security options this is the best security camera available.  This trail camera has a Rapidfire Mode, but no traditional video options.

Reconyx RC55

The RC55 has many of the same benefits as the RC60s. The difference is the infrared flash from the RC55 will glow red at night. In my opinion, the intruder almost has to be looking for it or right at it to notice it. The upside to the RC55 is that it has superior night pictures. Which in turn makes it easier to see faces and/or license plates. The RC55 can take picture in 0.2 seconds after it is triggered and can be ready for the next picture instantly. It also has a wide detection zone, meaning the intruder does not have to be directly in front of the camera for it to be triggered. The RC55 comes with great security options as well. Put a Rapidfire Enclosure, with a Python lock, and a Masterlock Brass Padlock and your investment is well protected. With no sound produced and plenty of security options this is a great option for most situations.  This trail camera has a Rapidfire Mode, but no traditional video options.

Reconyx RM45

The RM45 actually has a quicker trigger speed (0.1 seconds) than the higher priced Reconyx cameras. The RM45 takes high quality monochromatic (black and white only) pictures both during the day and at night. The infrared flash will glow red at night when a picture is being taken. The RC55 comes with great security options as well. Put a Rapidfire Enclosure, with a Python lock, and a Masterlock Brass Padlock and your investment is well protected. The RM45 has the same wide detection zone, instant recovery time, great security features and unquestioned durability as the rest of the Reconyx cameras. If the red glow at night and black and white pictures don't bother you, the RM45 is a great option at $450.  This trail camera has a Rapidfire Mode, but no traditional video options.

Scoutguard SG550

The Scoutguard SG550 has been wildly popular by hunters and outdoorsman since its release earlier this year. It also has several built-in advantages as a security camera. The first thing you will notice is that it is a very small, compact camera. This makes it easier to conceal and less likely for the intruder to notice. The infrared flash will glow red at night when taking a picture. It also has the option of a Security Box (which looks almost like a small utility box), Masterlock Brass Padlock and a Python lock. These security options work well together to protect your camera from theft and damage. Overall, the Scoutguard SG550 is a very good value for security purposes.  This trail camera is capable of video.

Bushnell Trophy Cam

The Bushnell Trophy Cam is very similar to the Scoutguard SG550 except for a few main points.  Unlike the Scoutguard, the Trophy Cam does not use a remote to program the camera.  All the programming is done on the inside of the camera and is very user friendly.  The Bushnell Trophy Cam's flash range is about 45 ft.  This is improved over the Scoutguard.  The detection range is also 45 ft. which is about 5 feet less than a Scoutguard.  The Bushnell Trophy Cam is a "red flash" infrared trail camera.  The infrared emmitters WILL glow red at night (although it is very faint).  The small size of the Trophy Cam (smaller than your hand) makes this trail cam very easy to conceal from would-be thieves.  This trail camera is capable of video.
