Best Thing About This Camera

The quick trigger and use of AA batteries is the best features of this camera

Trailcampro Analysis

The Spypoint IR6 is the totally reworked model from the previous years Spypoint IR-A, IR-B and IR-C models.  Upgrades include; smaller, more efficient camera design, use of AA batteries (improved the battery life), quicker trigger time (1.043 seconds) and the camera actually pops out of the case (handy for programming or checking images).

The IR-6 is very similar to the Spypoint IR-8, differences include; no internal viewing screen and 6 mpxl pictures (as opposed to 8mpxl from the IR-8).

The overall construction of the outside of the case is very durable.  However, the inside seems to be a bit flimsy.  The battery compartment is too thin, as I feel I will break it whenever I try to open it.  I do like that Spypoint has glued a quick setup guide on the inside of the camera, just in case you forgot the owners manual.

The setup is very simple, and user-friendly.  You will not have a problem setting this camera up.  I have long admired Spypoint for their great, hassle-free programming.

The day pictures are of average quality.  They neither "wow" me nor disappoint me.  The night pictures, however, are underwhelming.  The center of the images seem to be lighted up sufficiently, the edges are dramatically darker though.  Also, if there is movement from an animal in the photo, you can expect there to be a great deal of blur.

I was also disappointed that Spypoint increased its recovery time, when other companies are decreasing theirs.  60 seconds is the quickest this camera can be set to recover.  You can set the camera to shoot in burst mode, to get multiple pictures of the same animal.  This, however, is not nearly as efficient nor accurate as a quick recovery time.  This eliminates it from using it on a fast moving trail setup.

I would rate this as an average camera overall in this price range.  The Spypoint IR-6 is a much better value than the IR-8 as they are almost identical (biggest difference is no viewing screen).  If the slow recovery time and blurry night pictures were fixed, the value of this camera would jump dramatically.
