Conclusion

With a trigger speed of 1.22 seconds and a recovery time of 5 seconds, this camera is quick enough to capture just about anything.  The detection width is wider than its field of view.  This allows animals to enter the detection zone and trigger the camera, but still remain out of the picture frame. This can result in a few "empty" pictures. However, we feel this is an acceptable specification as long as the camera in question has a quick enough recovery time to capture a picture of the animal before it leaves the area.  What you wouldn't want is a camera with a detection zone wider than its field of view and a minimum recovery time of 60 seconds. This would create the opportunity for an animal to trigger the camera before it entered the picture frame then wander beyond the reach of the detection zone in the next 60 seconds while the camera was incapable of capturing a photo.

The NightTrakker's detection range closely matches its flash range of around 40 ft.  If you need a camera to monitor your food plots, this may limit the camera to smaller areas.

The one thing that stands out about the camera is the daytime picture quality.  That being said, we found that a very large number of the pictures taken by the NightTrakker were heavily blurred.  Normally this is limited to night photos however, we found an equal number of day photos blurred as well!  Here are examples - click on the pictures to really see the blur...

In the pictures, neither one of the deer are moving faster than a slow stroll.  So, the picture quality is a double-edge sword; great quality during the day when the animal is standing still, but blurry during movement.  The night pictures seem a bit grainy, but have adequate flash range.

There were initially problems with how the battery compartment in the Uway slid out, however, Uway quickly recognized this and have corrected the design.

The overall construction of the camera is solid.  Many camera companies seem to find the cheapest plastic available for their case, but this isn't so with Uway.

The difference between the NT50IR and the NT50B, is the NT50B  is completely "covert."  There is no red-glow when it takes a picture at night.  This is very handy when using for security purposes as it does not alert trespassers to the location of your camera.  It also prevents wary bucks from avoiding your camera site.

      Battery life should be excellent
. The NT50B draws just 450 micro amps (about 1/2 ma) while waiting to detect movement.  This is slightly higher than the most energy efficient models, but significantly lower than the majority of all cameras on the market.  Combined with the fact the NT50B uses (4) "C" cells as a power source, this camera should last in the field for many months.  One additional thing we encountered during our amperage test is the NT50B draws 370 micro amps even when the power switch is in the off position.  Furthermore, the motion sensor is also active when the power is off.  This elevates the current draw to 1.5 ma whenever the NT50B detects motion.   While this power consumption isn't drastic, battery life could be significantly diminished if the camera were stored for any length of time with the batteries inserted.

Overall, this camera shows a lot of potential. After a few firmware updates and design modifications are implemented, I believe this unit will become one of the better values offered in the market place.
