Camojojo Trace Review
- Live Streaming Cellular Camera -
In short, the Camojojo Trace comes with a funny name, but excellent performance. Armed with a fast detection circuit, great image quality, inexpensive data plans, and it's one of the easiest cell cameras we've ever set up... This has to be one of the best values on the market for 2023. - TCP Staff

Camojojo Trace Trail Camera Review
Pros
- Great picture quality
- Night videos are outstanding
- Live streaming video
- Affordable data plans
Cons
-
Does not use an SD card (it has 28.5 GB of internal storage)
- Daytime videos that are transmitted are quite grainy (will need to do the HD upload to get the better video)
The Camojojo Trace is a cellular trail camera that sends pictures and videos and even has a live stream option. To date, this is one of the most impressive cellular cameras we have seen at a fraction of the price of cameras that have similar ratings and specs.
Photo resolution: 5 mpxl
Video resolution: 1920 x 1080
Flash Type: Red Glow IR
The night pictures have really impressed us and display great contrast, clarity and flash range. These are top-notch night photos for any red glow IR trail camera.
Day pictures have realistic color and solid clarity. They are above average but not nearly as impressive as the night pictures. Overall, the picture quality is still a big plus.
The sample videos are directly from the app and represent the video quality you can expect immediately. The full-resolution video (higher quality) can be requested via the app or downloaded directly from the camera using a USB cable.
The uploaded daytime video quality is fairly grainy and hard to follow. If you download the full-resolution videos, they are far better. The night videos that are automatically uploaded are much, much better. This is presumably because IR videos require far less data to transmit than color daytime videos/pictures.
What if you purchase from us and aren't happy with the image quality?
This is a common question and we have a very simple solution. Call, email, or chat with us and we can take a look at the images and offer suggestions or immediately tell if something is wrong with the camera. If so, we will warranty the camera for you (with the free 2-Year warranty you receive from us) or return the camera for a full refund (within 90 days of purchase). You have control of the process, remember, we work for you.
Picture & Video Resting Power (on): 0.79 mW
Picture Daytime/Nighttime Power Consumption: 14.8 Ws | 16.3 Ws
Here are your best battery options:
Trailcampro Choice: AmpTORRENT Rechargeable AA Lithium
In Boost mode (sending the photo/video immediately), if this camera were to take 15-day and 15-night pictures every 24 hours, it would last 2.4 months in the field - per charge - on a set of AmpTorrent Rechargeable AA Lithium batteries.
In Eco mode (sending photos in batches), if this camera were to take 15-day and 15-night pictures every 24 hours, it would last 5 months in the field - per charge - on a set of AmpTorrent Rechargeable AA Lithium batteries.
There are a number of benefits to these batteries; up to 1,200 recharges, consistent 1.5 volt operation, charges with the included USB cable, eco-friendly (less batteries in a landfill), and the batteries pay for themselves after 2-3 recharges.
Longest Lasting Choice: Energizer Ultimate Lithium
In Boost mode (sending the photo/video immediately), with this camera were to take 15-day and 15-night pictures every 24 hours, the Camojojo Trace would last 3.6 months in the field on a set of 12 AA Lithium Batteries.
In Eco mode (sending photos in batches), with this camera were to take 15-day and 15-night pictures every 24 hours, the Camojojo Trace would last 7.5 months in the field on a set of 12 AA Lithium Batteries.
Ultimate Lithium batteries provide the longest-lasting battery choice due to their incredible consistency and capacity. We have loved these batteries for a long time, however, in recent years they have become incredibly expensive and not the most cost-effective option.
Picture Trigger & Recovery Speed: 0.29 s. | 28.1 s.
Video Trigger & Recovery Speed: 0.57 s. | 21.1 s.
Detection Range & Angle: 90 ft. @ n/a (54° field of view angle)
The Camojojo Trace has excellent speed and recovery times. Picture detection is faster than video but they are both still fast enough for most, if not all, animals. The detection range is fairly standard for a modern trailcam. Overall, this detection circuit is great.
Dimensions: 5.75" x 4" x 3.25"
Battery Type: 12 AA
External Battery Jack: 6-volt
Case Design
The Camojojo immediately jumps out at us from the unique antenna on top of the camera. It is the first we have seen like this. It is wide and flat and sits on top of the camera almost like a solar panel. We've experienced really good reception and would expect it to work in areas with just 2 bars of reception.
The rest of the case design is fairly straightforward. The bottom half opens easily, exposing the power switch, sim card, and battery tray eject button. The Trace does not use an SD card. All photos are transmitted over the app or downloaded via a USB cable directly attached to the camera.
The Trace ships with an angle mount that attaches to most trees using a standard nylon strap. The camera easily slides on and off the mount for battery changes.
The camera has a tripod mount on the bottom and the back of the camera. It will also accept a python lock on the back of the camera. Overall, the Camojojo has a nice case design with a really cool antenna.
Camera Setup
Without an internal screen or setup menu, the camera programs almost entirely from the app.
- Download Camojojo app
- Create an account
- Hit the plus button and scan the QR code on the inside of the camera.
Setup is extremely easy and user-friendly.

Data plan costs are extremely inexpensive, especially for videos and live streaming.
The Camojojo is refreshingly nice and easy to navigate. It feels like it was built by an experienced programmer that understands the settings trail camera enthusiasts would want. It even has animal recognition that can instantly sort your pictures by animal species without any additional cost or upcharge.
Want livestream? You get 20 minutes of live stream per month. Want videos? It will send unlimited videos on the monthly or annual plans. Want the full resolution photo of that big buck? You can request HD download (see data chart).
The Camojojo does not store photos on an SD card. Instead, it writes all data to 28.5 GB of internal memory. The manufacturer cited compatibility issues with different types of SD cards as the driving force for this decision. HD images can be downloaded using the app or transferred directly from the camera to a computer using a USB-C cord. Please note there are limitations to the number of monthly downloads using the app (see data chart above). No SD card is a downside to us, but certainly not a deal-breaker. We just wanted to add this so that those of you that are used to traditional trail cameras aren't surprised. The phone app has 365 days of cloud storage, so be sure to download and save any photos you want to keep permanently.

FAQ's: Trail Camera
Q: Will this trail camera trigger on small animals (birds, rodents, etc.)?
A: Trail cameras detect on a combination of heat and movement, so, yes, small mammals will trigger the camera. However, if you are going after smaller warm-blooded mammals, we recommend getting the camera closer to your target. For best performance, place the camera in an area that would enable picture detection from 3 - 20 ft.
Q: Can animals see the infrared flash on this camera?
A: Yes, this is a red glow infrared camera. If looking directly at the camera, you will see a red glow. This isn't super obvious but can be spotted if looking for it.

Trailcampro's 2 Year Warranty | 90 day Return Policy

Trailcampro 90 Day Return | 2 Year Exclusive Warranty Details
If you purchased your trail camera from us (Trailcampro.com), here are the following warranty stipulations. If you purchased from another retailer, we recommend contacting that retailer or the manufacturer of that product for their warranty details.
If You Purchase From Trailcampro.com
We attempted to make our return policy and 2-year exclusive warranty as simple as possible. However, there are a few stipulations.
90 Day Returns
You may return or exchange anything purchased from Trailcampro for a full 90 days from the date of purchase. Please use the items as you normally would and much as you like subject to the rules below.
Our return policy lets you field test products, at no risk to you!
- Buyer's remorse? Return the camera to us for a full refund (minus shipping).
- Purchased the wrong camera? We will ship you the right camera.
- Something wrong with the camera you received? We will replace it at no cost to you.
90 Day Return Policy Rules:
- 90 days from date of purchase.
- In order to receive a full refund, items must be returned with their original packaging (including UPC code) and all contents
- Cameras or products must be returned in their original condition. You cannot write on the cameras, paint them or deface them in any way. This completely voids the warranty with both us and the specific manufacturer.
- If you purchased one of our "Package Deals" and only return part of the package, we will refund the items full price minus the package discount.
- Orders with quantities of 5 or more are not eligible for a refund or exchange. They are still eligible for warranty replacement.
- There are no returns on used cameras or cameras that clearly state "No Returns"
- If you are returning for a refund, you are responsible for return shipping. Your refund amount will be minus the cost of the initial shipping to you.
2 Year Warranty
We strive to make our customer experience superior to anything available. Traditional warranties only last a year and must be processed directly through the manufacturer. This process usually involves frustrating minutes on hold with call centers and oftentimes weeks, if not months of down time waiting for your replacement product. We process our warranties in-house and expedite the replacement process. When you call Trailcampro you'll speak directly with an expert who will immediately identify the problem and offer a solution.
2 Year Exclusive Warranty Details:
- Warranty starts from the time of purchase and continues for a full 2 years.
- Replacement cameras receive the remainder of the 2-year warranty leftover from the original purchase.
- Warranty is only valid for full retail priced orders (quantity discounts void our 2-year warranty). Discounted items still receive the manufacturer warranty. Price matches void the 2-year warranty as well.
- If your defective camera has been discontinued, we will exchange it for a similarly priced item to your liking.
- If you have a 3G cellular trail camera, it is not considered manufacturer defect if you lose 3G reception in your area.
- Used cameras do not apply for our 2-year warranty
- Cameras cannot be marked on, damaged, or defaced in any way. Warranty is for manufacturer defect only. Defect does not include damage, whether intentional or not.
If you have any questions that were not answered here please feel free to contact us.
