Excellent photos/videos, 18+ months of battery life, and insanely fast detection capabilities make the Bog Clandestine a top-rated trail camera for 2021. Make sure you like the case design, as the unorthodox design can be polarizing. - TCP Staff

            Bog Clandestine Trail Camera Review

            Pros

            • 18+ months of picture battery life
            • Excellent detection circuit

            Cons

            • Only 2 months of battery life in video mode

            Picture Quality: 91/100

            Photo resolution: 18 interpolated mpxl

            Video resolution: 1920 x 1080 w/ audio

Flash Type: Low Glow IR (Bog claims in it invisible IR but we can clearly see if from 15 ft. away)

The Clandestine trail cam produces outstanding day and night pictures. Without a doubt, these are some of the best game trail camera photos we have seen recently. The daytime colors are realistic and sharp. Night images have great flash range and contrast. However, we have noticed a little blur in night photos where animals are moving.

Videos mimic pictures and are impressive all around. We are extremely impressed by the quality of video from the Clandestine. Play the videos below to see samples of the Clandestine video game camera's quality.

What if you purchase from us and aren't happy with the image quality?

This is a common question and we have a very simple solution. Call, email, or chat with us and we can take a look at the images and offer suggestions or immediately tell if something is wrong with the camera. If so, we will warranty the camera for you (with the free 2-Year warranty you receive from us) or return the camera for a full refund (within 90 days of purchase). You have control of the process, remember, we work for you.

            Megapixel Ratings:

In the past, many people get confused with the megapixel rating trail camera manufacturers advertise. Companies inflate the mpxl rating to attract eyes to their products. They do this through interpolation, which digitally adds megapixels to a photo without actually improving the picture.

The best way to judge picture quality is to look at actual pictures. You will notice this the most when you zoom in on a full-size image that a camera has taken. The details of the photo will appear hazy or even digitized. This is normal, and to be expected.

            Battery Life: 85/100

Picture & Video Resting Power (on): 0.39 mW

            Picture Daytime/Nighttime Power Consumption: 1.2 Ws | 1.8 Ws

            Video Daytime/Nighttime Power Consumption: 20.1 Ws | 61.1 Ws

If this camera were to take 35-day and 35-night pictures every 24 hours, the Clandestine would last 18.9 months in the field on a set of 6 AA Lithium Batteries. This is outstanding.

            Video Mode

If this camera were to take 15-day and 15-night videos (10-second videos) every 24 hours, it would last 2.1 months in the field on a set of lithium batteries. This is average life, maybe slightly below average.

            Detection Circuit: 92/100

            Picture Trigger & Recovery Speed: 0.04 s. | 0.7 s.

            Video Trigger & Recovery Speed: 0.40 s. | 0.6 s.

Detection Range & Angle: 70 ft. @ 33.4° detection angle (36.7° field of view)

Outside of only 70 ft. of detection range, the Clandestine delivers big on trigger speed and recovery time. This Bog Clandestine game camera is a fast camera that will take tons of photos of any animal within 70 ft. Overall, this is a really good detection circuit.

                • Quality of Design: 82/100

                  Dimensions: 5.25" x 3.5" x 3.25"

Battery Type: 6 AA (we recommend lithium)

External Battery Jack: No external plug

                  Case Design

                  • Bog cameras do not have a traditional case design and will take some explaining. Whereas most cameras have a latch that opens the camera, much like a book opens, the Bog Clandestine game trail camera has a button discreetly hidden on the front of the case. When pushed, a tray pops out of the bottom of the camera. This tray holds the batteries (6), sd card slot, and the viewer/setup menu. The obvious advantage is you can eject this, view pictures/change batteries/swap SD cards without modifying the way the camera was mounted or angled. The only disadvantage we have found is the tray doesn't eject that well every time, forcing the user to yank it out hard enough that the mounting angle would be modified in the process. We don't have a strong opinion yet on whether this unorthodox case design is an overall benefit or not.

The Clandestine does not have an external battery jack but does have a bracket on the back for a Python Cable Lock and a 1/4" x 20 threaded insert for a Slate River Mount.

                  • The Bog Clandestine game camera is remarkably easy to set up and get running. The large viewing screen is easy on the poorest of eyes and the playback option is great for reviewing photos in the field or getting the camera angled properly (after a few walk tests). The Clandestine does have hybrid mode (video + picture), however, outside of that it doesn't have much in the way of advanced settings.

                  • Durability

We don't have a large enough sample size to comment much on the durability. If anything arises, we will update this review immediately.

                  FAQ's: Trail Camera

Q: How do I view the pictures?

A: There are a number of ways to do this. Pictures/videos are stored on the SD card you place in the camera. Here are some other methods for viewing images:

                  • View pictures on your computer. Plug the SD card in a desktop computer or laptop via the built-in SD card reader or use a USB reader if your computer doesn't have one. This method works for most tablets as well. With this method, we recommend having two SD cards per camera so you can swap them in the field.
                  • Trail Camera Viewers. While more expensive, handheld viewers are useful if you don't have a smartphone or run multiple trail cameras.

Q: Will this trail camera trigger on small animals (birds, rodents, etc.)?

A: Trail cameras detect on a combination of heat and movement, so, yes, small mammals will trigger the camera. However, if you are going after smaller warm-blooded mammals, we recommend getting the camera closer to your target. For best performance, place the camera in an area that would enable picture detection from 3 - 20 ft.

Q: Can animals see the infrared flash on this camera?

A: This is somewhat controversial. Humans can't see the flash as the nanometer spectrum is above what the human eye can detect. It's also much harder for an animal to see, but that could depend on the species of animal as different species see in different light spectrums.

Q: Where can I purchase this camera?

A: From us! We hope to woo you with our incredible charm, two-year warranty, 90-day returns, free continental U.S. shipping, and technical expertise.

Seriously, though, we know you have plenty of options of where to spend your hard-earned money. The internet can be the wild, wild, west of too-good-to-be-true deals. - There is no downside to using lithium batteries. Long battery life, extreme durability, and better night pictures. You will be happy you did.

                    6 Foot Python Cable Lock

                    $19.95

                    - Use this with the security case, or just the camera itself. The Clandestine has brackets on the back specifically for this lock.
