Trailcampro Analysis

The Stealth GX45NG is a no glow infrared flash camera with an internal viewer.

Quality of Design

Dimensions: 6" x 4.5" x 3" | Battery Type: 12 AA Batteries | External Battery Jack: 12 Volt

This has to immediately be among our favorite scouting cameras to program. The 2" internal viewing screen has a live preview that allows you to playback photos, but more importantly, it makes setting up the camera a breeze. The setup process is extremely intuitive and you have almost every functionality you could ask for. Among our favorites are the start/stop time and custom time lapse options. The interface couldn't be better.

The camera is slightly larger than the g42ng, but the case design seems to be well-built, with no obvious flaw. The latch works well, the buttons are all positive to the touch. There is a python bracket in back and a 1/4" x 20 threaded insert on the bottom of the camera.

Durability on Stealth Cams continues to be pretty standard. We gave it an average rating. We will update this as time goes on if problems (or lack thereof) arrive.

Detection Circuit

Picture Trigger & Recovery Speed: 0.22 s. / 1.5 s. | Video Trigger & Recovery Speed: 1.96 s. / 7.5 s. | Detection Range: 70 ft.

The 0.22 second picture trigger time immediately caught our attention. Equally as impressive, the picture recovery time is 1.5 seconds, which is incredibly fast. The Video trigger times slow down quite a bit, but it doesn't damper our excitement over the picture trigger and recovery times.

The GX45ng detection zone is quite strong in range but the angle is wider than the field of view, resulting in false triggers semi-frequently. Overall, if you can ignore the false triggers, this is a very good detection zone.

Picture Quality

Photo resolution: 12, 8, 4 or 2 mpxl | Video Resolution: 1920 x 1080 | Flash Type: No Glow Infrared

Day pictures are above average in quality. The clarity is pretty good but the color is middle of the road. Night pictures struggle in the flash range department. The range is weak and the sides of the photo are significantly darker than the edges. There doesn't seem to be excessive blurring at night, which could be attributed to a quicker shutter speed.

Daytime videos are clear and sharp and posses a very smooth playtime. Night videos have the same below average flash the pictures displayed.

Battery Life

Resting Power (on): 2.34 mW | Daytime Power Consumption: 6.24 Ws | Nighttime Power Consumption: 7.22 Ws

The Stealth GX45NG has an efficient resting current. The day and night power consumptions are middle of the road, if not slightly below average. However, the overall battery life is greatly increased by using 12 AA batteries (instead of 6 in some of their other cameras).

As previously mentioned, this camera uses 12 AA batteries. We highly recommend lithium batteries as alkaline batteries have a tendency to under perform and/or fail quickly. If you use lithium batteries, and this camera were to take 35 day pictures and 35 night pictures every 24 hours, this camera would last 8 months in the field (with lithiums).

Stealth Cam GX45NG Reviews Conclusion

This camera has the potential to be a top of the line camera trap, with one exception. The night pictures keep this camera from reaching its full potential. A brighter night flash without gaining blur would catapult this camera up our rankings. As for now, this camera receives a strong recommendation from us as long as night picture quality isn't important to you. If night pictures are important, we would not recommend the GX45NG.
