Picture quality seems to be a real strength of the Snyper Commander 4G/LTE cellular trail camera. As you can see from the sample photos, it takes really good daytime photos, with realistic color and good clarity. For a no glow cellular camera, night photos are fairly well illuminated and it stops motion well, if there isn't excessive motion. Overall, we really like the picture quality of the Snyper Commander 4G/LTE cellular trail camera.

Night IR Blur Test The equipment for the test consists of a target moving along a track from left to right at a constant speed controlled by a stepper motor and a sensor to trigger the capture of a picture near the center of the field of view of a trail camera. The target is moving at 1.25 feet per second and is 10 feet from the camera at the center of field of view. The test is conducted in a dark room. Two pictures are taken, one with the target not moving and one with the target in motion. A visual comparison can now be made of the two pictures. All settings that affect the quality of night photos will be tested. |

Megapixel Ratings:
In the past, many people get confused with the megapixel rating trail camera manufacturers advertise. Companies inflate the mpxl rating to attract eyes to their products. They do this through interpolation, which digitally adds megapixels to a photo without actually improving the picture.
The best way to judge picture quality is to look at actual pictures. You will notice this the most when you zoom in on a full-size image that a camera has taken. The details of the photo will appear hazy or even digitized. This is normal, and to be expected.

The Commander triggers fairly quickly and recovers in 37 seconds. Video trigger speed is 0.76 seconds, which is average. The detection angle is slightly wider than the field of view, which will result in a few false triggers. We are still testing detection range at this time.

Case Design
The Snyper Commander's case appears to be well-built and durable. The latch is oversized and is easy to open and close. The camera has brackets for a python cable lock and two 1/4" x 20 threaded inserts (one on the back and one on the bottom). The batteries load easily and appear to lock in place securely. The SD card is easy to insert and remove.
Camera Setup
The Snyper Commander works on all carriers in the United States and Canada. Using the Sim Hero sim card, the Commander will automatically choose which carrier has the best reception and use that. This is a big improvement over traditional cellular cameras that only work on one carrier. Getting the camera up and running took about 20 minutes (longer than average). It involves sim card activation on a website, camera settings on the camera itself, and downloading the Snyper app on your phone. Expect to spend some time on the set up process.
When you have the camera up and running, you will pay for your data on the my.simhero.com website (it is not done from the Snyper app). Be aware, the Commander does not offer two-way communication. Traditionally, all cellular trail cameras have two-way communication so you can change settings on the fly, from your phone. The Commander does not have that and this is a big oversight in our opinion. In addition to that, the camera will only send pictures instantly - you can't save battery life by sending in "batch" mode.
Sim Card Instructions:
- Go to my.simhero.com, register, enter required information. Sim registration code is found under the sim hero card in the package
- Add billing information and select a data plan. You can checkout and pay for the plan (select auto-renew so you don't have to do this monthly)
- The website will tell you that the data will be active in 5-10 minutes
- To estimate how much data you need, the camera uses 80 kb per photo sent when sent in "small size." There are 1,000 kb in a mb. For instance, you can expect 1,500 photos per month with the $6.99 plan if sent in small size.
- Download Snyper App and create an account
- Insert batteries, SD card and sim card
- Turn the camera to setup, let it find service and then hit menu > Cellular 4G > Sending Options.
- Add the number you see on the screen into the "Phone Number for Camera" field. It should should start with 8611...
- Set the rest of the settings to your desired preference and turn the camera on.
Durability

Q: Will this trail camera trigger on small animals (birds, rodents, etc.)?
A: Trail cameras detect on a combination of heat and movement, so, yes, small mammals will trigger the camera. However, if you are going after smaller warm-blooded mammals, we recommend getting the camera closer to your target. For best performance, place the camera in an area that would enable picture detection from 3 - 20 ft.
Q: Can animals see the infrared flash on this camera?
A: This is somewhat controversial. Humans can't see the flash as the nanometer spectrum is above what the human eye can detect. It's also much harder for an animal to see, but that could depend on the species of animal as different species see in different light spectrums.
