    Pros

    • Really good day pictures
    • Solid detection circuit
    • Super easy to setup and can be done from the app on your phone

    Cons

    • Below-average battery life for 12 AA batteries
    • Blurry night photos when in "Max Range" mode

The Tactacam Reveal Verizon uses a 4G/LTE Quectel EC25-V module that allows this camera to operate on Verizon 4G/LTE towers. It is backwards compatible and should work on 3G towers while they are still active.

    Picture Quality: 85/100

    Photo resolution: 24 interpolated mpxl

    Flash Type: Red Glow IR

The Reveal takes great day photos and we have been quite impressed with the realistic color, clarity, and depth. We have received some of the better daytime cellular photos from the Reveal relative to other cell cameras. Please note, as is the case with all cell cameras, this camera sends a compressed photo in order to save data. The full resolution photo is saved to the SD card.

Night photos have pretty good flash range and contrast, but struggle mightily with stopping any motion at all. As you can see from our sample photos, most of the animals at night are blurred unless they are completely still. There is also white out on animals closer than 10-15 ft. These photos were shot with "Max Range" on the Night Mode (in the settings). Setting the game trail camera to "Balanced" or "Min. Blur" would decrease the blurring but also decrease the flash range. We are changing our test camera to "Balanced" mode and will report back with updated photos.

What if you purchase from us and aren't happy with the image quality?

This is a common question and we have a very simple solution. Call, email, or chat with us and we can take a look at the images and offer suggestions or immediately tell if something is wrong with the camera. If so, we will warranty the camera for you (with the free 2-Year warranty you receive from us) or return the camera for a full refund (within 90 days of purchase). You have control of the process, remember, we work for you.

    Megapixel Ratings:

In the past, many people get confused with the megapixel rating trail camera manufacturers advertise. Companies inflate the mpxl rating to attract eyes to their products. They do this through interpolation, which digitally adds megapixels to a photo without actually improving the picture.

The best way to judge picture quality is to look at actual pictures. You will notice this the most when you zoom in on a full-size image that a camera has taken. The details of the photo will appear hazy or even digitized. This is normal, and to be expected.

    Battery Life: 60/100

Picture & Video Resting Power (on): 1.12 mW

    Picture Daytime/Nighttime Power Consumption: 40.0 Ws | 41.3 Ws

    Picture Mode

If this camera were to take 15-day and 15-night pictures every 24 hours, the Tactacam Reveal would last 2.7 months in the field on a set of 12 AA Lithium Batteries. This is below average for a camera that uses 12 batteries.

    Detection Circuit: 84/100

    Picture Trigger & Recovery Speed: 0.53 s. | 31.6 s.

Detection Range & Angle: 90 ft. @ 45.2° detection angle (43.1° field of view)

The detection circuit has a solid trigger speed and recovers in just over 30 seconds, which is quite fast. The detection range is well above average and the detection and field of view angles match up nicely. This is a very solid detection circuit.

    Quality of Design: 79/100

    Dimensions: 4.5" x 5.75" x 2.5"

Battery Type: 12 AA batteries (we recommend lithium)

    External Battery Jack: 12-volt

    Case Design

The Reveal's case design feels solid and durable. The latch is over-sized and easy to manipulate, even with cold fingers. There is a bracket on the back of the camera for a Python Cable Lock and a 1/4" x 20 threaded insert on the bottom for a Slate River Mount. The batteries are easy to load and and unload and are held firmly in place with little chance of popping out.

    Camera Setup

The Tactacam Reveals sends photos to the Tactacam app that you download to your smartphone. Setup is extremely easy and can be done from just the phone app.

    1. Download the Tactacam app to your phone
    2. Create an account with your personal info
    3. Insert 12 AA lithium batteries and a SD card into the camera (make sure sim card is installed as well)
    4. Move the toggle switch on the camera from "off" to "setup." Wait for the camera to connect (will initially show "searching" before showing you the connection status at the top)
    5. Hit "Menu" > hit right arrow to go to "4G" > Go down to "QR Code." This will show the camera's unique QR Code
    6. In your app, go to the camera icon on the bottom of the screen and hit the large + button to add a camera. Scan the QR code from there to add your camera to the app. Boom, you're done!

    FAQ's: Trail Camera

Q: Will this trail camera trigger on small animals (birds, rodents, etc.)?

A: Trail cameras detect on a combination of heat and movement, so, yes, small mammals will trigger the camera. However, if you are going after smaller warm-blooded mammals, we recommend getting the game trail camera closer to your target. For best performance, place the camera in an area that would enable picture detection from 3 - 20 ft.
