Conclusion

There are two differences between the Leaf River IR5 and the Leaf River IR7.  The IR7 has 7 Mpxl while the IR5 has 5 Mpxl.  Both cameras have viewing screens on the inside of the camera.  The IR7's (2.4") screen is larger than the IR5's (1.6").  The detection circuits in both cameras are identical.
This is a highly programmable camera unit that can be used in a variety of conditions. A 1.5 second trigger is a great improvement over previous models. This means that you can put this camera on a trail and know with confidence that it won't miss a quick moving animal. Camera's with narrow detection zones will only take pictures of animals that are directly in front of the camera. The IR-7's wide detection zone, coupled with a 1.5 second trigger time, make it very valuable in area's such as food plots where an animal may stay on the edge of a field, near cover.
As is the case with most cameras that have a plethora of settings, the IR-7 can be tricky to program. Inside the camera you will find a multitude of buttons that can be confusing even to a trail camera veteran. Using the manual is a MUST, and by following the directions carefully you can get the camera to set up properly with minimal confusion.
Also, look at the above sample photos for an example of a night picture from a Leaf River IR-7SS.  They have no depth and they are grainy.  Do not buy this camera if you are looking for good night photos.
Inside the camera is a 2.4" viewing screen, that enables you to look over the pictures the camera has already taken. This is great for checking to make sure you have correct camera placement angle, or even checking images on your weekend hunt to see if a particular area is getting a lot of activity.
