Case design is certainly unique. The camera opens from the bottom, with the help of one extremely small latch. The Vision 8 also has six small screws visible on the outside of the camera. In the past, cameras that have screws on the outside like this are subject to corrosion from moisture.
The Wildgame Vision 8 Lightsout trail camera does not have an option for a tripod or Slate River Mount but it does have a built-in bracket for a python cable lock. The power button also makes it had to know whether the camera is turned on or off. We prefer a simple toggle switch that clear states "On/Off."
If you are familiar with Wildgame programming, you won't have a problem getting the camera going. We find the programming to be odd and not intuitive. However, you certainly won't need the owner's manual to get the camera running. There also isn't a great deal of setting options to choose from.
Durability on this particular model is unknown at this time. In the past, we have had some durability issues with Wildgame cameras that we have tested and reviewed.
Picture Trigger & Recovery Speed: 0.73 s. / 8.0 s. | Video Trigger & Recovery Speed: 2.65 s. / 10.3 s. | Detection Range: 60 ft.
Picture trigger speed is decent, but recovery time is extremely slow. 8 seconds to recover and take a subsequent picture is not competitive. Video detection speed is even slower.
The detection range turned out to be 60 feet in our Detection Shootout. This is average by today's standards.
Overall, this is detection circuit is well below average.

Battery life turned out to be a real positive on the Vision 8. This camera has very efficient power consumption.
If this camera were to take 35 day pictures and 35 night pictures every 24 hour period, this camera would last 10.1 months in the field on a set of 8 AA lithium batteries.
