Pros
Cons
Alpha Cam is a brand new trail camera company coming to market this year. This 4K model has high video resolution and dual camera lens (one lens for day photos, one for night).
Photo resolution: 32 mpxl (interpolated)
Video resolution: 3840 x 2160 @ 30 fps - 1920 x 1080 @ 60 fps
Video coding format: MOV
Flash Type: No Glow IR
Daytime images have realistic color and above average clarity. We have noticed some slight blurring on animals that aren't moving that fast. Overall, daytime images are quite solid.
Night photos have an adequate flash range for a no glow camera and seem to stop motion well. The contrast and clarity is a plus and the Dual Lens 4K doesn't appear to overexpose on close-up animals.
The daytime video quality on the 4K isn't as sharp as we expected from a 4K dual lens trail camera, however, it is still above average and shows good color and audio. The clarity is just average. Night videos are more impressive and have excellent clarity and contrast.
What if you purchase from us and aren't happy with the image quality?
This is a common question and we have a very simple solution. Call, email, or chat with us and we can take a look at the images and offer suggestions or immediately tell if something is wrong with the camera. If so, we will warranty the camera for you (with the free 2-Year warranty you receive from us) or return the camera for a full refund (within 90 days of purchase). You have control of the process, remember, we work for you.
Megapixel Ratings:
In the past, many people get confused with the megapixel rating trail camera manufacturers advertise. Companies inflate the mpxl rating to attract eyes to their products. They do this through interpolation, which digitally adds megapixels to a photo without actually improving the picture.
The best way to judge picture quality is to look at actual pictures. You will notice this the most when you zoom in on a full-size image that a camera has taken. The details of the photo will appear hazy or even digitized. This is normal, and to be expected.
Picture & Video Resting Power (on): 0.65 mW
Picture Daytime/Nighttime Power Consumption: 1.1 Ws | 0.9 Ws
Video Daytime/Nighttime Power Consumption: 16.7 Ws | 76.8 Ws
Picture Mode
If this camera were to take 35-day and 35-night pictures every 24 hours, the Alpha 4K would last 34.3 months in the field on a set of 8 AA lithium batteries. We consider this to be absolutely outstanding.
Video Mode
If this camera were to take 15-day and 15-night videos (10-second videos) every 24 hours, it would last 3 months in the field on a set of lithium batteries.
Picture Trigger & Recovery Speed: 0.14 s. | 0.7 s.
Video Trigger & Recovery Speed: 0.68 s. | 0.6 s. (In 4K mode: 0.85 s. | 1.0 s.)
Detection Range & Angle: 90ft. @ 41.5° (41.3° field of view)
Picture mode is blistering, top-notch fast. Video mode is very fast as well, coming in at about a half a second. There won't be much action missed.
The detection range is quite ample and the field of view and detection angle are perfectly matched, this is an impressive feat for a new camera company.
Dimensions: 5" x 4" x 2.5"
Battery Type: 8 AA
External Battery Jack: 12-volt
SD Card Size: Up 256GB
Case Design
The Alpha Cam 4K has a very familiar case design. There is a large latch for opening and closing this little unit and a fixed battery tray that accepts 8 AA batteries. The large screen on the inside of the camera makes picture playback and setting adjustments a cinch.
There is a tripod insert on the bottom of the camera and a python bracket on the back. Overall, case design is solid and looks exactly like many other camera models on the market. The SD card is hard to remove.
Camera Setup
Setting up the camera is super easy and done with backlight buttons and a large 2.4" screen. We never had to crack the user's manual and it is quite intuitive. The Alpha Cam has popular settings like hybrid mode (photo + video) and programmable start/stop time.
Durability
Keep in mind, our 2-year warranty program is your free insurance program in case something goes wrong with a camera you purchase from us. This warranty protects you from any manufacturing defect the camera might experience for two years.

Q: Will this trail camera trigger on small animals (birds, rodents, etc.)?
A: Trail cameras detect on a combination of heat and movement, so, yes, small mammals will trigger the camera. However, if you are going after smaller warm-blooded mammals, we recommend getting the camera closer to your target. For best performance, place the camera in an area that would enable picture detection from 3 - 20 ft.
Q: Can animals see the infrared flash on this camera?
A: This is somewhat controversial. Humans can't see the flash as the nanometer spectrum is above what the human eye can detect. It's also much harder for an animal to see, but that could depend on the species of animal as different species see in different light spectrums.
Q: Where can I purchase this camera?
A: From us! We hope to woo you with our incredible charm, two-year warranty, 90-day returns, free continental U.S. shipping, and technical expertise.
Seriously, though, we know you have plenty of options of where to spend your hard-earned money. The internet can be the wild, wild, west of too-good-to-be-true deals. If you choose to do business with us, we will go out of our way to make sure you are happy with the camera you select and the service we provide you.
We are passionate about testing and reviewing trail cameras, but most importantly, we are passionate about treating our customers the right way. We do things differently from what you have come to expect from other internet retailers and we hope you give us the opportunity to prove that to you.

Pros
Cons
Megapixel ratings for trail cameras seem to increase more & more every year. In reality, the native resolution of 99% of all trail cameras is 5 megapixels or less. Manufacturers artificially inflate megapixel ratings for advertising purposes through a process called interpolation. Interpolated photos are enhanced by software to mimic the file size of a higher megapixel photo, but seldom offer additional clarity or resolution. The result is an exponentially larger file size photo which takes longer to load and slows down the speed of your camera. We always program our cameras to capture photos at the image sensor's native resolution. This allows our cameras to operate as efficiently as possible and store more photos to memory. With shorter load times, this also allows us to review photos at a much quicker pace. To put things in perspective, the trail camera widely considered to be the "Gold Standard" and used by more professional researchers than any other unit is just 3 megapixels.

We stock only the most durable units and provide an additional year of warranty at no extra charge. The Trailcampro exclusive 2-year warranty allows you to deal directly with Trailcampro avoiding long wait times on hold with the manufacturer and prolonged periods without a replacement camera. "Love them so far!"
"I have several other Alpha Cam models and they work great. I would not purchase another for two reasons. 1st because of how and where the card is located. Really hard to remove. 2nd because of the daytimes lowest MP setting which is 10MP. The10MP takes up way to much space for the quality of the pictures. For a camera with an Image Sensors of 13MP I would have expected the pictures to be much better than what I’ve gotten. There are less expensive cameras out there that provide a much better picture. I don’t normally return a working camera, but I just couldn’t find a good reason to keep this one. I can usually come up with a location where a camera can be used, but not this one. The pictures and videos are just not up to what I want along with the amount of space needed to store them. So this one went back."
"Excellent camera , fast detection circuit, battery life is amazing but when using the video mode there is a weird noise in every video."
"Camera quality and daytime pics are great! Tried this new camera system and so far, I'm happy with the results."
"I purchased 2 Alpha Cam dual sensor 4k cams. They are very average which to me is 3 stars. Mostly, I am disappointed with the detection range. I tested AUTO and HIGH sensitivity; auto was the best, but only reached 40 feet consistently. The camera at this distance picked up rabbits, skunk, fox, deer, and myself. At 55 feet they took no pictures. Also, the motion pictures are too blurry. Clarity of motion is important to me for evaluating antlers; and again this model is very average. I bought the DUAL SENSOR cam because it's really the way to go if you don't want to spook your mature book buck. With dual lens there is no need for a no flash; should be standard IR for illumination distance. Also, the case design looks smart but the ergonomics are very poor. Opening the case while it is strapped to a tree is near impossible with gloves on. Also, I needed a tool to assist me in removing the SD card, or you will need long finger nails. Case design rates a #1 or 2. But, neither of the 2 I have leaked water as someone else complained about in a previous review. I cannot review the battery life. I have only used these for 3 weeks."
"Other than the SD card being very hard to get a grip on to remove it, I can tolerate it and bring tweezers to grip the SD Card. I am not in a extreme cold area of the country, if i were i would not want this camera. With gloves on it would be impossible to remove SD card. Otherwise it does what I need it to do."
"This camera is awesome! Daytime pictures are incredible! There’s some issues, but this is an amazing camera! Great battery life! Outstanding picture quality! Now the hits: Sd card is hard to get out Security box not available Only 10 seconds for video I secured it with a python lock but the camera can be opened. For the price amazing pictures! A little tweaking and I’m in."
"I have 10 browning cameras of different types. I've had 4k alpha cams for 6 months and prefer them to browning at twice the price. I've had no hiccups. Great battery life and image quality."
"Works well! We've captured some deer and a coyote along with the guys who mow our lawn, haha. The quality, especially in daytime, is quite nice. The only drawback is we wish there was a bit less lag between photos and video, but it's a great affordable option!"
