Trailcampro Analysis

The Stealth Cam G45NG Pro is a low glow trail camera. This makes the camera useful for both wildlife or security surveillance. The thing that stands out the most about the STC-G45NG is that it has very little in the way of negatives. The STC-G45NG model is just a solid, dependable, and versatile trail camera.

Picture Quality:

Photo resolution: 14 mpxl | Video Resolution: 1280 x 720 w/ audio | Flash Type: Low Glow Infrared

Daytime pictures display good color and depth whether in shady or bright areas. Clarity has been pretty solid. As you can see from our sample images below, the G45NG has produced some excellent pictures.

Night photos display great flash range and contrast. There is some whiteout on animals close to the camera and in the middle of the picture. For a low glow IR scouting camera, these are great pictures.

[powr-image-slider id=763c82c5_1462995725]

Video quality has been very impressive both during the day and night. Good color and fluid playback on day videos, but the night videos are even more impressive. Excellent contrast, great flash range - everything you would ask for.

Megapixel Ratings:

In the past, many people get confused with the megapixel rating trail camera manufacturers advertise. Companies inflate the mpxl rating to attract eyes to their products. They do this through interpolation, which digitally adds megapixels to a photo without actually improving the picture.

The best way to judge picture quality is to look at actual pictures. You will notice this the most when you zoom in on a full-size image that a camera has taken. The details of the photo will appear hazy or even digitized. This is normal, and to be expected.

Battery Life:

Picture & Video Resting Power (on): 1.95 mW

Picture Daytime/Nighttime Power Consumption: 4.7 Ws | 6.2 Ws

Video Daytime/Nighttime Power Consumption: 17.8 Ws | 85.3 Ws

The G45NG Pro produces efficient battery consumption draws.

If this camera were to take 35-day pictures and 35-night pictures every 24 hour period, this camera would last 6.6 months in the field on a set of lithium batteries. Alkaline batteries would fair significantly worse.

If this camera were to take 15-day videos and 15-night videos every 24 hour period, this camera would last 2.1 months in the field on a set of lithium batteries.

Detection Circuit:

Picture Trigger & Recovery Speed: 0.73 s. / 4.6 s. | Video Trigger & Recovery Speed: 2.98 s. / 4.4 s. | Detection Range: 70 ft.

This is not a fast camera. Picture trigger is average, but all other speeds are below average. The G45 has proven to have a reliable detection circuit, just not a fast one.

Detection range is 70 ft. This is a solid detection distance.

Quality of Design:

Dimensions: 5.25" x 3.5" x 2.75" | Battery Type: 8 AA Batteries | External Battery Jack: 12-volt

Case design on the G45NG is extremely solid. It has the feeling of a well-made trail camera. The latch works flawlessly, the battery tray slides out easily and the camera has a built-in bracket for a python lock. There is a 1/4" x 20 threaded insert on the bottom of the camera for a Slate River Mount.

Stealth Cam likes to have "Quickset" modes as programming options. There is Q1, Q2, and Q3 preset options. While these are quick and easy to use, we almost never use them. In fact, they are pretty unnecessary with as easy as the camera is to program in "custom" mode. If it were up to us, we would scrap the pre-set options and just stick to the custom option. It is easy to navigate, intuitive and sets up in less than a minute.

We were happy to find many of our favorite settings in the menu. Start/stop time, format sd card, password protection, PIR sensitivity and IR flash control options were all present. These features may seem like a small thing, but they are certainly handy when you need them.

Durability has been a big strength of the G45NG Pro. We have sold quite a few of these units and have seen very little warranties.

A great field surveillance camera

"We're very pleased with this camera. We like it enough to have three of them! The camera's Custom Settings have many options, so it can be tailored specifically for different uses. Only dislike is the image download onto a PC running the Windows OS: each file ends up in its own folder. (We have perfected a work-around for this problem but it does mean a couple of extra steps to get the files into our standard image processing software.)"

Very Happy!

"Easy to set up; excellent quality PICs and videos, and I'm very happy I bought it from here due to the quick service and incredible deal."

Stealth Cam G45NG Pro

"As a first time trail cam buyer I appreciated the detailed information on each cam and general advice on camera selection. My order was processed and delivered quickly. Seems to be a quality build and good seal when closed. Set up was easy & I was able to test camera the night it arrived (caught neighbor's cat in action). Set up camera in clearing where two wildlife trails converge - looking for action within 30 foot range & mostly at night. Both still shots and videos are clear with good detail - I've decided to use short video clips since bad angle of night still shots for small animals can make it difficult to ID. The only day time shot was very clear and detailed with good color - neighbor's cat again. Still need to test on longer range detection & shots. Haven't tried customization yet. I set the camera on a board at ground level to capture small animals and had a "what the heck is that" moment. Glad I was shooting video. Opening view turned out to be whiskers at close range followed by a possum ear. After I gain some experience will be shopping Trailcampro site for a second camera (second Stealth Cam G45NG Pro? a different camera with different capabilities?)."

Q&A

WITHOUT a security case - is it possible to remove the SD card? Can it be stolen if I only use a python lock, or are there additional options to secure it with a lock? WITH the security case there´s a review saying you have to take off the whole camera plus case from the tree to change the card/ settings since the lock goes through both security case and camera - is this true? it would be very unhandy. Thanks in advance.
Yes, without a case it can be removed. You could steal the camera if you had bolt cutters and yes, that review is accurate.
Will did Camera Operate in Colder Weather one of the reviews says that the detection zone is greatly reduced
Cameras made overseas tend to stop working around 0 degrees F.
Can this camera record through a window from inside the house?
No, no PIR camera can.
How long is the maximum video recording time?
Between 5 and 180 seconds during the day and 30 seconds max night video length.
What format is the video in? (.mov, .mp3, etc.)
They are .MP4
Can you leave the AA batteries in while using the external power source?
Yes, absolutely.
What is the night time and daylight detection distance
Detection range is 60 ft., but, be aware that range can vary with ambient temperature.
What is the actual detection angle vs. actual FOV on the G45NG?
At the time of this writing, we have not done a detection zone test this year. Sorry
Stupid question does the camera have an actual flash that is viable when taking pictures at night, would this not scare animals?
The G45NG is no glow - meaning a human can't see a glow at night. Different animals see in different light spectrums though, so it is hard to say which animals could or couldn't see it. Thanks for the questions!
does this camera still have the 2 year warranty since it's now 2016
This is a 2016 model - it is brand new. Our 2 year warranty starts from the day you purchase the camera from us. Thanks for the question!
