Be Wary Of Megapixel Ratings

Megapixel ratings for trail cameras seem to increase more & more every year. In reality, the native resolution of 99% of all trail cameras is 5 megapixels or less.  Manufacturers artificially inflate megapixel ratings for advertising purposes through a process called interpolation. Interpolated photos are enhanced by software to mimic the file size of a higher megapixel photo, but seldom offer additional clarity or resolution.  The result is an exponentially larger file size photo which takes longer to load and slows down the speed of your camera.  We always program our cameras to capture photos at the image sensor's native resolution. This allows our cameras to operate as efficiently as possible and store more photos to memory.  With shorter load times,  this also allows us to review photos at a much quicker pace.  To put things in perspective, the trail camera widely considered to be the "Gold Standard" and used by more professional researchers than any other unit is just 3 megapixels.

Trailcampro Choice: AmpTORRENT Rechargeable AA Lithium

If the Tactacam Reveal Pro X were to take 15-day and 15-night pictures every 24 hours, this camera would last 2.1 months in the field - per charge - on a set of AmpTorrent Rechargeable AA Lithium batteries.

There are a number of benefits to these batteries:

  • Up to 1,200 charges
  • Consistent 1.5 volt operation
  • Charges with the included USB cable
  • Eco-friendly (less batteries in a landfill)
  • Batteries pay for themselves after 2-3 charges

Longest Lasting Choice: Energizer Ultimate Lithium

If the Tactacam Reveal Pro 3.0 were to take 15-day and 15-night pictures every 24 hours, this camera would last 3.2 months in the field on a set of Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries.

The camera has two threaded inserts for tripod mounts, one in the back and one on the bottom. It also has a bracket for a python cable lock and will close the door.

Durability

The vast majority of consumer-grade trail cameras are inexpensive, imported devices exposed to harsh conditions 24/7/365.  Most manufacturers only offer a one-year warranty.  We stock only the most durable units and provide an additional year of warranty at no extra charge. The Trailcampro exclusive 2-year warranty allows you to deal directly with Trailcampro avoiding long wait times on hold with the manufacturer and prolonged periods without a replacement camera.  We turn around most warranties in just one business day!

Not bad for the price

"I purchased two Tactacam Reveal Pro 3. 0 cellular cameras to monitor cage traps. I needed a 'request image now' option, which these have. I typically use a different brand of camera. For $150 these cameras are fine. I have find the night images to be grainy and distant objects (20ft away or more) are almost completely obstructed by glare from closer objects. And importantly, although the cage is <10ft from the camera, the camera routinely misses the animal that we have indeed caught; thankfully we can request an image every morning! These cameras also do not seem to do well with rechargeable batteries. Despite the batteries being new, the Tactacam states they are at 35%. I know cold temperatures impact this, but the batteries are fine in comparison with another camera brand deployed at the same time, this constant warning that the batteries are low is annoying. Again, for the price and our purpose, they are not bad. But, if my preferred camera was in stock, I would not re-purchase this camera."

"Bought this camera because the new RECONYX was not available. Mark helped me choose this camera according to my needs and ease of use. Couldn’t be happier with my purchase! Great photos, very fast transmission time, and super easy to use!!!!! Thank you Tactacam and to the team at Trailcampro!!!!!!"

"Always good when dealing with you. I’ve got 8 cameras any you took care of any problems I had."

Reveal pro 3. 0

"These reveal cameras are good, but do not capture and send images as well as my covert cams. How every,Reveal app is far better than newest covert app"

Rodney D. (4/5)

Good Gear

"This camera is my first cell-enabled camera. That said, I cannot tell how much the battery is affected by that function. I have noticed that the auxiliary battery pack seems to be depleting at a faster rate than my older cameras that I feed lithium AA batteries. They are standalone units that have no cellular access. I get excellent photos with this camera, with good sharpness and color in the daylight, and good b&w shots after dark. The distance it picks up objects with its flash at night is impressive. The software takes awhile to become familiar, as there are many functions included that I didn’t expect at first. You can do a lot with this! All in all, I’m happy with my purchase. I didn’t expect to need a solar charger for it, but it’s looking that way."

Gregory N. (4/5)

NOT A FAN

"Past models are definately better IMO. What exactly is work mode?? Of course I want it to work. . . Probably send them back. I don't like not knowing if I put it in work mode or not. Oh and they don't give you a manual any more to explain whats going on with the camera."

Jon T. (3/5)

It’s a Tool

"I was hesitant getting a cellular camera . I called and talked to Trailcampro. I needed no flash because the bucks in this area look at the cameras and sometimes stay away for several days or maybe 2 weeks . I was advised to use the Tacticam Pro Reveal 3. 0. I look forward each morning to looking at the pictures of animal activity. I singed up for monthly so I can stop it after the season. Tacticam are good people. Get the lithium cartridge and the solar panel … good advice ! You will learn from your cellular camera."
