Night IR Blur Test The equipment for the test consists of a target moving along a track from left to right at a constant speed controlled by a stepper motor and a sensor to trigger the capture of a picture near the center of the field of view of a trail camera. The target is moving at 1.25 feet per second and is 10 feet from the camera at the center of field of view. The test is conducted in a dark room. Two pictures are taken, one with the target not moving and one with the target in motion. A visual comparison can now be made of the two pictures. All settings that affect the quality of night photos will be tested. |

What if you purchase from us and aren't happy with the image quality?
This is a common question and we have a very simple solution. Call, email, or chat with us and we can take a look at the images and offer suggestions or immediately tell if something is wrong with the camera. If so, we will warranty the camera for you (with the free 2-Year warranty you receive from us) or return the camera for a full refund (within 90 days of purchase). You have control of the process, remember, we work for you.
Megapixel Ratings:
In the past, many people get confused with the megapixel rating trail camera manufacturers advertise. Companies inflate the mpxl rating to attract eyes to their products. They do this through interpolation, which digitally adds megapixels to a photo without actually improving the picture.
The best way to judge picture quality is to look at actual pictures. You will notice this the most when you zoom in on a full-size image that a camera has taken. The details of the photo will appear hazy or even digitized. This is normal, and to be expected.

The HD King is one of only a handful of trail cameras for sale that has an integrated solar panel built into the camera. The solar panel charges an internal 5200 mAh lithium battery. In addition to that, you will need to add 4 AA batteries. It is impossible for us to accurately calculate the extra battery life from the solar charger due to a ton of different conditions, so all battery life examples are based solely on the 4 AA batteries. Please understand, actual battery life will be much better than represented below.
Here are your best battery options:
Trailcampro Choice: AmpTORRENT Rechargeable AA Lithium
If this camera were to take 35-day and 35-night pictures every 24 hours, it would last 5 months in the field - per charge - on a set of AmpTorrent Rechargeable AA Lithium batteries.
If this camera were to take 15-day and 15-night videos every 24 hours, it would last 1.2 months in the field - per charge - on a set of AmpTorrent Rechargeable AA Lithium batteries.
There are a number of benefits to these batteries; up to 1,200 recharges, consistent 1.5 volt operation, charges with the included USB cable, eco-friendly (less batteries in a landfill), and the batteries pay for themselves after 2-3 recharges.
Longest Lasting Choice: Energizer Ultimate Lithium
If the this camera were to take 35-day and 35-night pictures every 24 hours, it would last 7.6 months in the field on a set of Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries.
If the this camera were to take 15-day and 15-night videos every 24 hours, it would last 1.8 months in the field on a set of Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries.
Ultimate Lithium batteries provide the longest-lasting battery choice due to their incredible consistency and capacity. We have loved these batteries for a long time, however, in recent years they have become incredibly expensive and not the most cost-effective option.

The HD Solar King has a much slower detection range than most units. The one thing that lowers its score, you can only set a delay for down to 5 seconds.
Dimensions: 6" x 4" x 3"
Battery Type: 4 AA + internal rechargeable with attached solar panel
External Battery Jack: None
Case Design
The outer case has the appearance and feel of a solid, quality camera. It has a beefy back bracket for the included nylon strap and is compatible with a python cable lock. There are two tripod inserts, one on the top and one on the bottom, this is always a favorite feature of ours. The latches are small and a bit stiff to open.
The HD King is one of only a handful of trail cameras that has an integrated solar panel built into the camera. The solar panel charges an internal 5200 mAh lithium battery. In addition to that, you will need to add 4 AA batteries.
Loading batteries is easy, fast, and keeps the batteries snug. The SD card snaps in and out with relative ease. Overall, this is a solid case design with some clear advantages.
Camera Setup
Camera setup is started by turning the camera into setup mode and hitting the menu button twice. The 2" internal screen helps in setting the camera up, however, the words are a bit small and old eyes might struggle seeing a few of the settings. Overall, setup is easy and can be done rather quickly.
This camera has the ability to turn on the side sensors to increase or decrease the width of the detection zone. It also has password protection (optional), PIR sensitivity, and time lapse options.

Q: Will this trail camera trigger on small animals (birds, rodents, etc.)?
A: Trail cameras detect on a combination of heat and movement, so, yes, small mammals will trigger the camera. However, if you are going after smaller warm-blooded mammals, we recommend getting the camera closer to your target. For best performance, place the camera in an area that would enable picture detection from 3 - 20 ft.
Q: Can animals see the infrared flash on this camera?
A: Yes, this is a red glow IR trail camera.
Q: Where can I purchase this camera?
A: From us! We hope to woo you with our incredible charm, two-year warranty, 90-day returns, free continental U.S. shipping, and technical expertise.
Seriously, though, we know you have plenty of options of where to spend your hard-earned money. The internet can be the wild, wild, west of too-good-to-be-true deals. If you choose to do business with us, we will go out of our way to make sure you are happy with the camera you select and the service we provide you.

Pros
Cons
Megapixel ratings for trail cameras seem to increase more & more every year. In reality, the native resolution of 99% of all trail cameras is 5 megapixels or less. Manufacturers artificially inflate megapixel ratings for advertising purposes through a process called interpolation. Interpolated photos are enhanced by software to mimic the file size of a higher megapixel photo, but seldom offer additional clarity or resolution. The result is an exponentially larger file size photo which takes longer to load and slows down the speed of your camera. We always program our cameras to capture photos at the image sensor's native resolution. This allows our cameras to operate as efficiently as possible and store more photos to memory. With shorter load times, this also allows us to review photos at a much quicker pace. To put things in perspective, the trail camera widely considered to be the "Gold Standard" and used by more professional researchers than any other unit is just 3 megapixels.

Wi-Fi
The HD King is the only camera we carry with any type of Wi-Fi capability. While this camera won't capture and automatically transmit images like a cellular trail camera, it does have one unique advantage. A user can connect wirelessly to view and download photos without physically opening the camera as long as they are within 30 feet range. This allows someone to mount the camera high above and record activity without fear of theft. Will not connect to home Wi-Fi network. Creates a Wi-Fi network you can connect to via app.
Durability
The vast majority of consumer-grade trail cameras are inexpensive, imported devices exposed to harsh conditions 24/7/365. Most manufacturers only offer a one-year warranty. We stock only the most durable units and provide an additional year of warranty at no extra charge. The Trailcampro exclusive 2-year warranty allows you to deal directly with Trailcampro avoiding long wait times on hold with the manufacturer and prolonged periods without a replacement camera. We turn around most warranties in just one business day!

Overall rating: 4.0 / 5 from 11 reviews.
Review topics: ["quality","price","videos","pictures","sensitivity","camera","buy","latch"].
"Sensitivity good and not over sensitive. Photos and video seem sharp enough and properly exposed. Worked fine in below freezing temperatures."
"The video and pictures have good quality. The app for connecting to the camera would not work. The sale price was good. The latches are very hard to open as others have posted. The solar charging of the battery seems to work well. I contacted Trailcampro about the software issue. They were quick to respond but could not offer any solution to get the software to connect with my Samsung S24 phone."
"I just downgraded my earlier review from 4 star to 3 stars as I could not do an update. THE GOOD: Price, Video Quality, Solar (may be - I am getting dead battery signal and its in full sun all day and only about 5-7 weeks old). THE BAD: Maybe the solar charging or not charging???? The latch mechanism is incredibly hard to open and close and I have to use a screw driver to pry the latches open (has not eased with use). The picture is indeed further away than my other trail cameras so you will need to set it up about 30% or so closer than other brands to your target zone to get the same image size image. My camera is only a month or two old and recently it took 2 night videos that were totally (100% dark) so either the flash or something did not work. I also had the sensitivity set on medium and it totally missed a large fox that came straight in front of the camera during the day (about 12’) and drank water for 30 seconds while another camera set at 90 degrees picked up the fox. I have now increased the sensitivity to its max. but this was a big negative. You are also limited to the size of the SD card you can use. So I am now less than happy with this purchase and will no longer buy this model (and return it) if it keeps recoding black screen at night or misses daylight action that other brand cameras pointing in the same spot capture - the price point does not make up for its shortcomings. I will pay more for another brand."
"I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the video - very good. I have not used the picture mode but Video quality is very good though I think image's are a little further away than my browning (need to do side by side comparison). I only have two complaints - the first is that the instruction manual is lousy and some of the abbreviations and symbols used in the setup process are not easily understood nor intuitive like other brands. Also, the screen menu is very difficult to read and small. The second issue is the latch to open the camera - wow its very, very difficult to open (maybe in time it will ease up). The unit does have a size limitation (32 GB) on the SD card. The wifi feature with a range of only 30’ max is virtually useless. So far Very Good videos for the price but a clumsy setup process and opening latch system. This is my 5th camera and my fist true budget one. If the camera continues to perform well, the solar feature does its job, I just might buy a couple of more for sunny locations."
"so far so good.time will tell if the batteries stay up."
"The solar pack inside the camera holds its charge very well. I charged the camera up by sitting it out in the bright sun all day before prior use. The menu functions on the camera are fairly easy to follow once you figure out the layout of the onscreen menu. Some of the sounds you hear while pressing menu buttons remind me of a clicking on a desktop using a Windows computer. The picture quality is very clear for the price of the camera. The trigger speed is not the speed of a Reconyx, but if you are looking for good quality pics, solar battery feature, and the Trailcampro warranty you can't wrong. A sample pic is provided to demonstrate clarity."
"Only been in for a month, seems to be working ok"
"I really like the wireless connectivity (beware of a VPN on your phone causing connection issues). The images are clear but it really doesn't have a good IR sensor reach at all compared to my older Primos Gen2. It's just OK overall."
"I am very happy with the quaility of the photos and videos that are taken with this camera. Highly Recommended."
"Camera worked great except @ night, the lens would get covered with heavy moisture here on the Pacific Ocean. None of my other cameras do that. Videos are great and sharp with good sensitivity during the day."
